The cord of three strands

13 08 2009

When David stood before Goliath, he knew that God was going to bring deliverance not only for him but also for the people of Israel, and not only that God’s manifest destiny for Israel would be preserved and not destroyed.

What was it that David had that gave him such complete confidence that when he came out to challenge Goliath, he would prevail?

I believe that it was the strength of David’s relationship with God, that he had built up over the lonely years of shepherding, when he was overlooked by his family, as he learned to worship God and to serve Him only, he developed a strong bond with God the Father Almighty, the Lord God Almighty, the Lord of Hosts.

In Ecclesiastes 4:12 we read that a cord of three strands is not easily broken. I believe that there were three key aspects to David’s relationship with God that enabled him to stand fast in the face of death.

(1) Faith
(2) Preparation
(3) Keeping it real

Each of those strands is in turn made up of three components. So we have
Faith, the presence of God, the call of God. David not only believed God, he had also been set apart by God, anointed by God (the call of God) and he also had cultivated the presence of God by becoming a worshipper.
Likewise, we have no business standing before Goliath unless we likewise have faith: we believe God; we’ve been called: appointed, anointed; we have cultivated the presence of God around our lives through seeking Him in prayer, through the word, and through worship. If we do that, we have the first strand in our lives intact.

Which brings me to the second strand. We have preparation. This in turn requires the presence of God (the anointing, the call of God, worship), and it requires humility, and it requires us to show up having done the absolute best with what God has given us. Consider the parable of the talents. Jesus has given us gifts, He has given us talents. And we’re to use them. But not the things that He hasn’t given to us. David was not (at the time of facing Goliath) a battle-hardened warrior. That was the problem. He was a shepherd boy, with a lot of time on his hands. Did he sit around thinking “oh dear, poor me, I’m only a poor useless shepherd boy, what can God ever use me for, I’m not a warrior, I’m not particularly talented, I’m not especially clever, oh poor me”. No he did not. He practiced with his slingshot. In the hours and hours of boredom, watching over his “few sheep”, he did not waste what he had. He learned to be a crack shot. God used this to overcome Goliath.

So you’re thinking “Well, I have absolutely nothing, I’m not even any good with a slingshot, I’m a complete unco, God could never have used me”. Wrong. God will use whatever you have. That is where the humility component and the anointing component come in. If David truly had no skills in at all, he would have overcome Goliath with “just” the anointing on his life. Humility required of David that he recognize that Saul’s armour wasn’t going to work. He went in the strength he had, having learned the lessons from the stories of his ancestors, in particular Moses and Gideon. But the preparation strand means that effort was required, and time was required, and waiting on God was required. God knows the timing. Our times are in His hands.
In the meantime we don’t sit twiddling our thumbs, we put our hands to the plow whatever is in front of us and we use the time wisely to prepare.

Finally, we have the component of “keeping it real”. Which is similar to the strand of preparation, yet different. The emphasis of this strand is humility. We understand not just that we can do nothing apart from God but that we can do everything in Him. All things are ours. All things are possible, to those who believe. So this strand is combined with faith. In fact its faith, hope and love wrapped in a cloak of humility.

So we have the three strands of the cord that must tie us to God, and does tie us to God in Christ.

The faith strand, made up of faith, the presence of God and the call of God. In other words, the anointing.
The preparation strand, made up of our talents and effort (preparation), the presence of God and humility.
The “keeping it real” strand: faith, hope and love wrapped up in the cloak of humility.

Remember we are God’s workmanship, and we are created to do good works in Christ.

Colossians chapter 1, the Message:

“The lines of purpose in your lives never grow slack, tightly tied as they are to your future in heaven, kept taut by hope.”

There is a hope laid up for us in heaven, that God wants to use us to bring to earth. Touching heaven, pulling down the blessing, and changing earth. All things are possible, if we believe.

The floods of disappointment

14 05 2009

When disappointment comes, it’s as if somehow our lives are shut down, and the streams of our lives back up like water behind a dam.

It’s as if we’re stuck in this bitter, putrid, festering, muddy pool of frustration, self-pity and doubt. Its as if our lives have been inunundated.

This is not life as God intended it for us. His word says that he has come to give us life, and life in abundance. He doesn’t want us moping around by the festering pools of our life, without hope and without God active in our lives. He wants to get the streams flowing again.

Flooded fields are not productive fields. In fact, when the flooded water gets stagnant it grows toxic bacteria which can kill the ability for the fields to produce anything, even once the floods have gone. In order for the fields to be productive again, there is a plowing process which must take place, but more about that later.

God wants to open the floodgates of our lives which have caused the blockage, the areas which have allowed disappointment to take over. But even when the floodgates are opened, the floods persist sometimes. Why is that?

The reason is that there is much sludge and silt which has backed up behind the floodgates, so that even though they’re open the putrid, stagnant, foul, bitter waters remain. The gates are stopped up with the sludge and various other (indeterminate) junk.

OK, I’m speaking rhetorically here. What do I mean?

To recap: there are two processes that need to take place, to get rid of the backed up junk and putrifying flood water. First, there is an opening: the floodgates have to be opened. Then there is an unstopping which must take place.

In Isaiah, we read “Then shall the eyes of the blind be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped.”

The opening of the floodgates represents the opening of our eyes: we are able to see, we’re able to assess the damage, realize we’ve been subject to flood, realize that there is something we can do about it, and see the Lord before us, the blood of Jesus, the price He paid for our redemption so we don’t have to wallow in the floods of disappointment, bogged down in our lives.

Secondly, our ears are unstopped. We’re not only able to see, we can hear from God what it is that we need to do to get ourselves out of the muck. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Jesus opens the eyes of the blind (ours) and the ears of the deaf (ours) so that the backed up filthy floodwaters can subside, hope is restored, and the festering disappointment gives way to the fruitful fields of God’s plan for our lives.

Remember, he knows the plans he has for us, and they really are to prosper and not to harm us. Whatever the devil has meant for evil, God meant for good.

As the eyes of our heart are opened, we are able to say, with Job, “Though he slay me, yet will I praise him”.

Then as we begin to praise him, our ears are unstopped, and we hear Jesus rejoice over us with singing.

He truly does delight in us, he is already saying “Well done, good and faithful servant”. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. While we were still a long way off, the father has seen us and is running with open arms.

He has come to change your name. No longer desolate, now your name is delight. The joy of the Lord, his joy over you is your strength.

The LORD has made proclamation
to the ends of the earth:
“Say to the Daughter of Zion,
‘See, your Savior comes!
See, his reward is with him,
and his recompense accompanies him.’ ”

12 They will be called the Holy People,
the Redeemed of the LORD;
and you will be called Sought After,
the City No Longer Deserted.

Recompense and restoration are coming. A marriage, a restoration is coming, and is now here as you look to him.

A message

16 04 2009

Remember, God says:
“I will not, I will not (ever), I will not (never),
leave you nor forsake you”

This is the message, from God
You don’t have to be alone,
You don’t have to be on your own
I LOVE YOU
please come home

My song is love
Love to the loveless shown
And it goes up
You don’t have to be alone

Your heavy heart
Is made of stone
And it’s so hard to see clearly
You don’t have to be on your own
You don’t have to be on your own

And i’m not gonna take it back
And i’m not gonna say I don’t mean that
You’re the target that i’m aiming at
And I’ll get that message home

My song is love
My song is love unknown
And i’m on fire for you, clearly
You don’t have to be alone
You don’t have to be on your own

And i’m not gonna take it back
And i’m not gonna say I don’t mean that
You’re the target that i’m aiming at
And i’m nothing on my own
Got to get that message home

And i’m not going to stand and wait
Not gonna leave it until it’s much too late
Oh, on a platform i’m gonna stand and say
That i’m nothing on my own
And I love you, please come home

My song is love, is love unknown
And i’ve got to get that message home

Oceans will Part (Part Two)… Hope Will Rise

10 11 2008

Hope will Rise

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed. Paul prayed that the eyes of our heart would be opened, that we might know the hope of our calling… to the Romans (and to us) Paul writes:

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

The thing about hope—true hope—the hope that we wear as a helmet, the helmet of salvation; this hope, which gives us strength to believe (against all hope), can not be crushed by circumstances.  This hope, which overflows by the power of the Holy Spirit, will not stop flowing. This hope will rise, against all odds, against all opposition.  Greater is He that is in you, the power that gives you hope, than He who is in the world. There truly is no devil in hell that can stop the power of hope.

It’s coming: a tsunami of reality, a tsunami of joy, a tsunami of peace, a tsunami of glory…

Glory Shown

“Show me Your glory”, Abraham prayed

Paul prayed “That you may know the glory of his inheritance in the saints”

The last prayer of David “Let the whole earth be filled with your glory.”

As you open my eyes to the work of your hand

It’s not up to us.  We pray; He hears.  We cry out; He answers. We ask; He freely gives.

Call upon the Name of the Lord, and be saved.

Call upon Him in trouble, Call upon Him when things are going well, Call upon him when things are going bad.  Call upon the Mighty Name of Jesus.

Call upon the Lord, and He will answer you and show you great and marvellous things that you do not know (Jer 33:3).

If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously and without reproach (James 1), without favour, without preference.  He gives to all.  To as many as receive him, He gives the right to become children of God (John 1)

It is not the healthy who need a Doctor, but the sick.

O Lord heal! O Lord forgive! cries the Psalmist.

Jesus came to give sight to the blind.  Lord, open my eyes to the work of your hand.

Oceans will part at the whisper of Your call

Not the shout, the whisper.  God came to Elijah in the cave… not in the fire, not in the wind but as a still small voice.  God spoke into the darkness, and there was light.  God spoke to Moses, and the Red Sea parted.

God whispers and the Nations tremble.  God whispers through our prayers, and the demons flee.

Only, keep on believing.

A mustard seed of faith, and the mountains fall into the sea.

In my life, Your will be done.

That means my will takes a back seat.  That means seeking God until he shows us the way.  That means asking, seeking, knocking, believing, receiving.  The mustard seed of faith, the word, is the key.

Ask, and keep on asking…

Seek, and keep on seeking…

Knock and keep on knocking…

Have faith in God!  Only believe…

Let it be done, according to your faith.

The just shall live by faith.   Persevere!

Your will be done, O Lord, on earth, as it is in heaven…

Jesus, open my eyes to the work of your hands…

The Key of David

24 09 2008

God spoke to Isaiah:

I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.

and to John the Revelator:

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.

What exactly is this “Key of David”?

What is that David had that somehow unlocks the heart of God, so that God can work so mightily in Davids life?

What was the preparation that David went through that enabled him to stand before the giant Goliath and win?

Yes, it was faith, but it was more than faith.  “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God

How do we get the word of God, that gives us faith, of which a mustard seeds worth is sufficient to move mountains?

How will be able to stand in the coming days, should the worlds financial systems fail, should World War III break out, should our leaders fail, should men and women’s hearts melt with fear?

What will make the difference in our lives?

The Key of David is intimacy with God.  The same intimacy that God had with Moses

The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend.

Jesus came to give us eternal life, that is that we would know him:

this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

We are called to know him.  We are called to enter his throne room daily and to converse before the throne of grace, a two-way intimate conversation.   From this place of intimacy comes faith, and with faith comes power to move mountains, overcome giants, break free into the perfect will of God, see lives transformed, broken hearts healed.  This is the kingdom of God.

David knew that Goliath didn’t stand a chance, because he knew God.  Nothing and more and nothing less is required.  Without Faith it is impossible to please God.  Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.  And the word of God comes from a heart of intimacy with the Father.

Jesus Christ has made a way, He has come to give us eternal life that we may know the Father, His blood has redeemed us, he is the propitiation, the curtain is torn in two.  Let us therefore come boldly before the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Amen!

The Double Portion

22 09 2008

Ever felt like you’ve had enough? I have

Ever felt like life just isn’t fair?  I have

Ever felt that life doubly isn’t fair, because you trusted God with your life, and you felt as if God let you down somehow?  I have

Ever decided that God’s promises didn’t apply, at least not to you, at least not on this side of eternity? I have

Ever gotten mad with God because the evidence of His goodness was lost in the badness of life? I have

Ever reached that “Comfortably numb” place of “whatever” indifference?  I have

Ever felt like ripping up those bits of paper where you wrote down the things God said He was going to do in you and through you?  I have

But yet today I’ve been drawn again to God’s word, and to what He says to us again and again, and I’m forced to admit, as the weight of His word presses down upon me (it’s a good weight) that I’ve been wrong.

God is faithful to His word.  He hasn’t forgotten us.  He will do what He said He would do in my life.

“In my life, Your will be done”

God says to His people Israel, in perhaps one of their darkest hours, in exile in Babylon, a pagan nation:

“Comfort, yes, comfort My people!”
Says your God.
“Speak comfort to Jerusalem, and cry out to her,
That her warfare is ended,
That her iniquity is pardoned;
For she has received from the LORD’s hand
Double for all her sins.”

And again

you shall be named the priests of the LORD,
They shall call you the servants of our God.
You shall eat the riches of the Gentiles,
And in their glory you shall boast.

Instead of your shame you shall have double honor
And instead of confusion they shall rejoice in their portion.
Therefore in their land they shall possess double;
Everlasting joy shall be theirs.

First, God promises comfort.  Our warfare is accomplished.  We have a great high priest who has carried our griefs and borne our sorrows.  Our sins have been paid for, in duplicate.

Then, not only do we have twice the pardon we deserve, on top of this, God promises us twice the blessing.

Again, God speaks through the prophet Zechariah:

Return to the stronghold, You prisoners of hope. Even today I declare That I will restore double to you.

Prisoner of hope.  Does that sound familiar?   Are you a prisoner of the hopes and dreams that God gave you years ago, that even now, you’re still awaiting their fulfilment?

Even today, He declares that He will restore double to you… if you simply return to the Stronghold.  Return to the Name of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

“The Name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run to it and are safe.”

“Salvation belongs to our God” we sing in a quavering voice, as if “hopefully” we can just make it to the end of our life and squeak into heaven.  As if “Salvation” was something that we might just be fortunate enough to accede to, if we just hang in there long enough, scraping by on the few crumbs that God’s given us for now, that just might be enough to get by if we’re lucky.

No!  Salvation means so much more than that.  It means hope, life, blessing, fulfillment now!!   That’s the “helmet” of Salvation that strikes utter terror into the camp of the enemy, when he sees that holy hat of war placed on the heads of the soldiers of the Almighty.

Why then, do we not yet see it?  Why do we not yet see the double portion, the back-pay, God’s favour, yet?

Perhaps that’s not really a question we should be asking, but it could be this simple:

James says “You have not, because you ask not”

Jesus says “Whatever you ask in My Name, I will do it”

Perhaps we’re luke warm?   Perhaps our love has gotten cold?  Perhaps we just need to get over ourselves and back to the throne of grace.

We might need some wisdom from God to get the answers.   We might need to seek Him for the answers.

But the truth remains.   God will give us the double portion.  It’s in His word, and He will fulfill His word.

Are we expecting it?  Why not?  It’s in His word, and it’s for us.

Forget that sanctimonious carry-on “Oh, that’s for the faith people”, “Oh thats the health and wealth gospel”, “Oh I’m suffering for Jesus”, “Oh, the thorn in the flesh”  etc. (boring to go on, you know what I mean)

No its the gospel Gospel, and it’s for you and I.  Perhaps we have not because we ask not.

The Flame Part Two

14 09 2008

Following on from my post on Thursday…

Fire is a common theme in scripture, and there are two types of fire referred to in scripture.

God wishes for us to be consumed, in the best possible way (which is consumed by His glory), but first we must be consumed.

Paul writes to the Corinthians:

If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.

God is like a refiners fire, and He sends us the fire of circumstances (as trite as this sounds it is nevertheless real) because He wants us as vessels for His glory.

The Lord is a consuming fire, but just as Moses was drawn aside to the burning bush because, though it burned it was not consumed, so God allows circumstances to burn away our dependence on ourselves.  Having already been consumed, as such, we become like the burning bush—aflame with the glory of God, so that people turn aside to us, wondering how we can burn so yet not be consumed.   This is not where we’re at now, necessarily, but it is where God wants to get us.  Mark my words.

Like Paul, He wants us to put no confidence in the flesh, and if we’ve asked Him to (“Lord, make me your servant.  Lord, use me for you Kingdom, use me for your glory” and such like that we pray before we know any better), He will bring us to that place kicking and screaming if necessary, through circumstances.

He comes to us, first with a warning:

Seek the LORD and live, or he will sweep through the house of Joseph like a fire; it will devour, and Bethel will have no one to quench it.

then with a promise:

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

Then finally, the enduring flame of Gods love shines through us, and those He has called will turn aside to us, marvelling that we are not consumed, and we will actually have something to offer them—the presence of God with us.

…love is as strong as death,
its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire,
like a mighty flame.

The Flame…

11 09 2008

I didn’t post yesterday, had a crap day… which served to remind me how easy it is to lose track of God and His plan.

The psalmist says: “Why, God why?”, “How long, O Lord, how long, how long?” which reminds us we’re not alone, in this journey of faith, in losing site of the goal.

Especially when God either directly or indirectly derails our plans. His plans are not contigent upon our plans.   And its not just the reverse thats true.   More than that, our (new) plans, in Christ, are contigent upon Him.  “I will be your portion”, He says.  So we seek, and wait, and seek and wait…

When the journey requires of us brokenness, or we bring upon ourselves brokenness through not allowing God in— the pain can be overwhelming.

Especially when we’re reminded by our lack of progress.   Our former compatriates, or those who we think ought to be our peers by now (and perhaps they should), pass us by, the specter of  failure comes crashing around us.   “Why, God, Why?  When, God, When?” we cry…  While the world says we’re mad (and perhaps we are)

We are reminded of David and of Job:

“He has alienated my brothers from me;
my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.

Then in the midst of that darkness, lest we stumble headlong into the pit that is self-pity, God reminds us of who we are and who He is and who He has called us to be…

Today God did it in the strangest way… I was sitting in my office, moping and moaning, when a song started in my head…

“Wherever you go, I’ll be with you…
“Whatever you want, I’ll give it to you…
“Whenever you need someone, to lay your heart and head upon
“Remember, after the fire—after all the rain—I will be The Flame”

And God does promise to lead us on into eternity, with the Flame of His presence, to have us burning and not consumed… with His eternal passion for the broken world we live in.  God is faithful, He is good and He is true.

Don’t forget today is September 11, Don’t forget the tragedy and pray for Gods hand upon the United States in the coming elections (and for my own country of New Zealand too!)

Overcoming Disappointment

9 09 2008

“Sing, O barren woman,
       you who never bore a child;
burst into song, shout for joy,
       you who were never in labor;
because more are the children of the desolate woman
than of her who has a husband,”
       says the LORD.

When dreams are shattered, its not just hard to pick up the pieces.  It’s impossible.  We know what happened to Humpty Dumpty.

What does God say to us when life gives us lemons?   Make lemonade??  No.

God knows that the lemons of life are often too bitter to be of any use for anything, other than to be tossed back into the pit from whence they came.  So what does He give us instead.  He gives us hope.   Not the pitiful “I hope so” of the plaintively desperate.   Not the “hopefully” of the hopeless.  No.

Paul writes to the Romans:

…since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

“Hope does not disappoint us”

Hope, in the Glory of God, does not disappoint us.  And we also have hope from the word of God in Isaiah.  A promise, that he will give us “children” in our barrenness.  Joyce Meyer says “If you’ve been disappointed, get reappointed”.

And when I first heard that—well, I was seething—but then God gave me a picture.  God reappoints us with a new appointment—not the same appointment—a new one, tailor-made for where we’re at

Because within the black hole of disappointment, the crucible of broken dreams… the-thing-that-you’d-hoped-for-that-just-ain’t-gonna-happen…ever!  The nothingness of defeat.   God says “I will turn the specter of failure in to a sceptre of righteousness”

How?

By giving us a new dream, a new vision, a new hope.   Maybe yesterday we dreamed of a perfect marriage.  Until that was decimated in the ashes of an acrimonious divorce.   Maybe we’ve been crippled… physically or emotionally.  Maybe we got struck down by depression.  Maybe we lost our confidence. Maybe our best friend betrayed us.  It doesn’t matter.

The new hope is a vision of Gods glory, it’s engaging Gods plan for redemption that meets us head on right where we’re at.   Its focusing on the cross,  Jesus Christ, the True King, himself utterly broken and bereft for our sakes.  But not without hope.  As we gaze upon the cross, a remarkable transformation begins to take place.  He who knew no sin, no brokenness, was made sin for us so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.  There it is—the specter of failure turned into a sceptre of righteousness.  Its praying through the depression.  Its loving our enemies.  Its learning to be gracious in defeat.  Its the gospel… the good news.

Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

Hope has come.  Jesus Christ is that hope,  he alone can fulfill that longing and complete the picture right in the midst of our incompleteness.   And in the midst of that, the new plan for our future begins to unfold, right where we’re at.

For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future an a hope.

Exceed Your Vision

8 09 2008

Do you have a vision? Or if you do have a vision, is it a God-sized vision?

God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask—or imagine… and He wants to develop our vision so that it exceeds “our” vision (if you get my drift).  He wants a God-sized, impossible vision, and He wants us to believe it.

He says to us “Call to me, and I will answer and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know

If anyone lacks wisdom—lacks vision—they should ask God, but they must believe and not doubt (lest they be as a double-minded person, unstable in all that they do).  And if the vision isn’t immediately crystal clear, keep asking, keep seeking… [actually it just needs to be "plain" not crystal clear]

The band I’m listening to on iTunes at the moment is called the “Desperation Band”

Maybe God is waiting for some good old desperation before He provides the picture… just a thought

Or maybe He’s provided all of the picture that we need, and we haven’t walked in the light that we already have.  God’s plan is usually revealed like an unfolding… little by little, each step a step of faith.  He patiently waits for us to walk out in the light we already have, and as we follow through, more is revealed.  To the one who has, more will be given, to the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken

God makes our footsteps firm, and He’s not bothered when we ask for more certainty each step of the way. If you’re not sure about the next step, ask Him.  He will give you the vision you need. True faith is not blind faith.  Faith is not blind, faith requires a vision that transcends and supercedes natural vision.  Ignorance isn’t a problem to God—in fact “ignorance” coupled with desperation is a prerequisite to hearing from God:  The one who thinks he knows does not yet know as he ought to know.   The word of God doesn’t refer to blind faith, the word says “we walk by faith, not by sight.“  The vision of faith is far greater than the vision of the eyes, or the vision of human planning, or of any human endeavour.    Faith is the actual evidence of things hoped for, the very substance of things not yet seen.

What to do, then, when one has no vision?  How then are we to know the way we are to go?

Pilots are taught, early on in their training, how to fly in conditions of low visibility.  Such conditions are known as “instrument conditions”.  Pilots in instrument conditions cannot afford to fly by their senses, and their feelings, because these are invariably wrong.  In instrument conditions, a pilot must determine his position and his course by his instruments, and his instruments alone.   Failure to do this will result in disaster.

Likewise, God often requires of His children that we learn to “fly” in instrument conditions, when there is little or no vision.   The instruments are the word of God, the Bible, prayer, faith, hope and above all love. As long as we plant ourselves in God’s word, we cannot lose.  As long as we bring everything to Jesus in prayer, how can we worry?

Jesus tells his disciples to “keep” his word.   The word of God isn’t always easy to understand, nor is it easy to digest.  In fact sometimes digesting Gods word is like chewing dry weetbix.  It is in these times that we must learn the definition of perseverence (which literally means to “stand [stay, abide] under” in New Testament Greek).  God is teaching us to fly by our instruments and not by our feelings.

God is faithful.  He will not let us be tempted [tested] beyond what we can bear, but when we are tempted [tested] he will provide a way out so that we can stand up under itPersevereStand under (understand?)

You will seek me, and find me,” says God, “when you seek me with all your heart.

Come see
Come see with spirit eyes
Come see
The door is open
Come near
Come weary and ashamed
Come near
His arms are open
His arms are open

Come live
Come live in freedom here
Come live
The chains are broken
Come rest
Come take his gift of grace
Come rest
The word is spoken
The word is spoken

Come see
Come see with spirit eyes
